There are literally hundreds of films that could fit into a vague definition of “movie car”, and it is likely that almost every action, science fiction, thriller and even rom-com will try to seduce us with the representation of ‘a flashy car.
The Twilight of the recent hit movie has made several exotic cars to our attention. Edward Cullen tradesin the Volvo C30, which he led in the first movie of one of the most exquisite cars ever built - the Aston Martin Vanquish in the second movie.
For many of us who grew up loving classic films, the DeLorean from the film ‘Back to the Future “is almost as popular as the film itself. 6 were purchased for the original film and 3 of those were cut for studio use. Today, he is widely remembered and respected. Batman’s Bat Mobile has also been a conspicuous car on our screen forgenerations, with a toy box loaded with wonderful features such as machine guns, nose drop bombs, and protected by a tank shell, the bat-Mobile 1989 is built on a version of a 1974 Chevrolet Impala chassis. This engineering excellence and design went into the manufacture of each bat-mobile, especially their most recent tube, The Dark Knight ’
James Bond has always been an avid car in the opening scene from Quantum of Solace was a race between an Aston Martin DBSand an Alfa Romeo 159 and in one of my favorite movies, The Transporter Jason Statham is not only involved in a lot of physical combat, but has a beautiful BMW 735i and was chased by a horde of Peugeot 306 police cars. I’d like to see Jason Stunt Double disc of a series BMW3 in Cardiff, I wonder if he could draw a Wheeler 2 in this low country roads?

Gay-Friendly Cars: Is Subaru Number One?

Gays and lesbians buy a lot of cars, and the auto industry has begun to recognize that. Subaru, for one, has been a sponsor of the Showtime series The “L” Word, and also an advertiser on Viacom’s Logo channel.A new survey (of 3,685 respondents) by Gaywheels.com and Sorgenfrei reveals that 67 percent of both gay male and lesbian car buyers consider it “very or somewhat important” for auto companies to exhibit a “gay-friendly” reputation (when it’s defined by whether the company offers domestic partner benefits to its employees).
This is a potent market with discretionary spending: 40 percent of respondents who bought their latest vehicle new reported household income over $100,000. And 42 percent of gay men and 39 percent of gay women report household income above that level.
Subaru’s wooing of the gay and lesbian audience seems to be working—at least on one level—because it was the overwhelming favorite (chosen by 45 percent of respondents, with Volkswagen and Ford a distant second and third) as the most gay-friendly car company. But that alone apparently doesn’t sell cars: Toyota (which had 12.8 percent of the overall car market in 2008) is the most frequently owned brand among people taking the survey.
“We are definitely perceived as gay friendly,” says Dominick Infante, a Subaru spokesman. “We believe in fairness for our employees, and we were the first car company to offer benefits to same-sex partners. We have also used [lesbian tennis star] Martina Navratilova as a spokeman in commercials, and advertised in the Advocate and Out.”
Dig a bit deeper, and the results get more interesting. According to Joe LaMuraglia, a former Nissan employee who now serves as Gaywheels.com’s publisher, Saab deserves special mention as the brand most over-represented among gay and lesbian buyers. The Sweden-based General Motors subsidiary has only a tiny .1 percent of the U.S. market, but gay men are 18 times more likely to own one than is the general public. Lesbians are 11 times more likely to own a Saab.
The brand preferences diverge after Saab. For lesbians, the number two brand in terms of over-representation is Scion, followed by Jeep, Subaru and Saturn. For men, it’s Audi, then Mini, VW and Jaguar.
“These results show that when it comes to marketing, gay men and lesbians are two very distinct groups, LaMuraglia said. “And companies that target them should realize they have to be targeted separately. Being gay-friendly and having good brand awareness are very positive factors, but the companies still have to have products that meet all their needs.”
Lesbians, by the way, are more likely to buy a car based on environmental factors than are gay men. Gay men say their cars proclaim that they are “successful, sexy and well-off.” Lesbians say their car announces that they are “practical, environmentally conscious and partnered.”

Will Saab’s Saad Saga End Happily with an Electric Car?
Lately, iconic Swedish automaker, Saab, has been the hottest potato in the world of nearly-doomed-but-possibly-still-alive auto brands. On the heels of a collapsed deal with Swedish luxury car maker, Koenigsegg, GM looked set to sell the Saab brand to little-known Dutch-run but Russian-backed luxury car maker, Spyker.
In fact, everything about the Spyker-GM deal started looking pretty rosy as early as last week when Saab announced a major deal with battery maker, Boston-Power, to build an all-electric version of the 9-3. The ZE 9-3, as it would be called (ZE=zero emissions), seemed to have some nice stats: twin electric motors with 335 horsepower, 0-62 mph in 6.5 seconds, and a range of 93 miles with a 26kWh battery pack.
